Today I am grateful for being able to have lunch with my daughter. The school year is in swing here in North Texas and I stopped by Ada’s school with one of her favorite lunches – a #8 from Great Outdoors. If you don’t have one of these places by you, don’t be surprised I think its a hyper regional chain, think east coast sub sandwiches. Anyway, the kid doesn’t eat onions on anything but she will go for it on this turkey and provolone goodness.
She was super excited to see me and break up her school day with one of her favorite lunches and as I reflect on my day I have to say this simple moment was my favorite part. She talked about her teachers, and her friends, her schedule and what they have been up to today. Nothing noteworthy so to speak, just details of her day.
Its important for me to just reflect and sit in thanks – it doesn’t need to be a super exciting powerful moment. I try and pick a favorite moment of each day and sit with that in thanks for a little while. Its also important to write it down, when I do patterns start to emerge that might be surprising. Either way its telling about where your heart is, a scan through my gratefulness journal rivals my heart is securely wrapped around my daughters little finger!
Even in what seems to be the darkest days, there is something to be grateful for. Building in a list, or even one thing to be grateful about on a daily basis can be the difference between sliding into off the beam thought patterns or having a more positive experience. When I fill one fills their mind with thanks, there is far less room for resentment and fear.
What are you grateful for? I suggest writing it down and finding a moment in your day to sit with something positive.
